Everytime I had to move out to a new place, it is quite difficult for me to adjust to the new environment atleast for the initial days. This time am moving from Jersey City to Boston.Spent little over a year in Jersey City with Ananth,Rahul was fun-filled.Ananth is always hilarious in everything he does.He does not worry about the next minute. All he cares is current moment. He lives for the moment and enjoys it to the sky-level..Married and divorced, womaniser, loves partying, hanging out with friends, passionate about cooking,fun-lover,treats everyone equally, smart guy too.Rahul on the other hand is equally witty,girls-centric,keeps his mind fresh always, not the one who gets dejected easily, focussed on making money, balances work and life evenly.
Well,I lerant a lot on cooking from Ananth. He patiently teaches me whatever stupid question i asked about cooking. When he cooks, aroma spread all over the house. At the end we get delicious food and that is where a funny part lies.Because of this yummy taste,I gave him tons of compliements and motivated to cook him most of the days.Poor fellow, does not understand this for a while.I used to wonder previously about Charlie's proficiency in cooking. But I never learnt anything from him concretely about cooking. It was always a delight to watch Ananth's cooking and learning from him.
Interesting fact about Ananth's cooking is he never touches the masala powder brought from stores. He himslef blends his own masala and that is the best part of his cooking. That is where I started to expand my knowledge about the use of every single spice and how and when to use them while cooking.
Apart from cooking,We used to have miles and miles of conversation about several topics. Both of us are fascinated by cinema especially about watching quality cinema. Those are my days of exhilaration. He loves Rajini and I am a proud fan of Kamal and this invokes argument between us every now and then.Despite being Kamal fan,I never turned down our plan of watching Rajni movies. In face we paid $30 each to watch Endhiran in Columbia park and celebrated in a big way at the theatre.
When we are together,we make everyone around us to smile. When I think about this,I still remember one extremely funny incident when we both were coming back home from New York.
We boarded a train to Journal Square from World Trade Center. It was around 7 P.M on a Friday evening and train was almost deserted.Just I looked around I didnot see any Indians and especially no Tamilians. We initiated our usual hilarious topics. It was my day for sure.Sajith was also with us when i described them about my fantasy about the girl I am going to marry.I told them in my own style of narration."Girl must be modern at the same time traditional. She should wear western dress as well as our own attire. She should love her official work at the same she should adore the arts.she should understands me at the same time she should think on her own and take a decision.she should very fit at the same time she should not look heavy and wide after marriage. She should love me and she should take care of my family members as well. She should be a right blend of everything i am dreaming for".For every sentence i complete, these guys made fun out of that and we all were laughing our head out. After a while i told them "Thank God,People around do not know Tamil " and I looked on the right side. There was a lady looking fair and tall and laughing delirious. My goodness, why is she laughing on her own.Without controlling my excitement I enquired her"Do you know Tamil?".
She said she is from Chennai and she had been listening to the conversation from the begining.Thank God,Ananth being very notorious about making derogatory remarks about women didnot say anything nasty...
I asked her can you find a girl of my choice. She immediately gave us her number ..Holy moley,do we have women like her on the Planet Earth.By the time train reached her stop and she dropped off. When we reached our station,we forgot one thing to ask her.Was she married or not? We never asked her this question.By the way,I have to narrate about her beauty. She is a typical malayalee girl grown up in Chennai and now living in New York area. For a guy like me,it is more than I could ask for.She has the beauty and magnetism we look for.
Ananth without waiting for the next second, called her and asked "Are you married?".Amma romba mukkiyam.Phonai vaiyyunga mothalla.

Nandhala - Movie deserve to be in the Hall of Fame
Well, as expected Nandhala despite getting great ratings, its cash registers are not ringing greatly and tanked at the box-office.It joins the league of :
1.Shawsank Redemption - This movie tanked at the box-office but currently in IMDB this is the all time favorite movie, has been ranked No.1 for years/decades.
2.Anbe Sivam - Had a disastrous run in the box-office,however all the educated youth has added this movie as one of their favorites movies in their profile.Again it is one of the best movies in the last decade.
And finally Nandhala which should have hit the bull's-eye has failed miserably despite flawless direction and heart-touching music by Maestro and supported by brilliant technical elements.
In my opinion,Nandhala deserves 4.9/5,it loses 0.1 only because Myskkin failed to use the songs and soothing music scored by Maestro in the film.Ilayaraja was awarded National Award this year on the newly added category called Best Background score.
I would say Nandhala score is a milestone in his career.Just the background music talks about the story and no need of any dialog.
Hats-off to the Cast and Crew of this film.It forms the baseline for the upcoming movies.Myskkin joins the league of directors who makes meaningful cinema with extra-ordinary technical stuffs.
I remember one thing once Kamal hasan said,in cinema you never know which will work-out and which will not and Nandhala is the standing proof of the later.
Feeling sorry for the friends who missed out the movie in the theatres.
Well, only one thing which is hard to digest would be the implication if such movies have horrible runs in the box-office.Good scripts would not be accepted by the producers and directors end up in doing what the producers suggest which is off-course masala stuffs.Tamil cinema already lost many fire-fighters like Mahendran,Balu Mahendra,Bharathiraja. This much bleeding is enough for now.

Why choose stocks than other investment vehicles?
Be greedy when others are in fear,Be feared when others are greedy - Warren Buffet.
Stocks are like any other investing instruments for making profits which must be bought after a thorough research and due diligence. Before diving in deeply into the stocks, first let me write about the important aspects of investing in stocks and what temperament one should need for investing in stocks.
What is a stock?
A company involved in a legal business need money to expand their business so that they can make more money and sell their products or services in various parts of the country. The company has got two ways of raising money.
One is getting a loan from Banks and Financial Institutions and pay the principal back within the stipulated along with the interest.
Second is raising money from Public through stock market by selling shares of their company.
In India,SEBI(Securities and Exchange Board of India) is the regulator and takes care of monitoring of securities in India.Any company which has desire to enter into stock market should comply with the regulations and policies instituted by SEBI and should get clearance from SEBI followed by a through analysis of the company by SEBI.
BUYING SHARES:
a)IPO:
For the first-time when a company enters the capital markets also called as Stock market it is called as Initial Public Offering(IPO).Based on the company's demand in the market place, amount of money they anticipated to expand the business, the price of each share for IPO will be calculated.Again we need a DEMAT account to invest in IPO.
b)SECONDARY MARKET:
Once a stock gets listed after IPO,anyone can buy or sell shares in the market through demat account.
c)DEMAT ACCOUNT:
All the companies shares which are publicly listed in an exchange can be bought or sold using Demat account.Since we cant buy the shares directly in the exchange we need to open an account called DEMAT through a broker.
WHY WE NEED TO INVEST IN STOCKS:
There are several reasons for investing in a stock:
1.Making Profits:
Of course, the end goal for any investment would be to make profits.Good quality stocks can give stupendous profits and based on the earnings the company announces dividend for each calendar year.
2.Owning a business:
Investing in a stock is like owning a business. Each share we buy gives certain ownership in the company. When we are buying a company,we are buying the business,we are becoming the one of the owners of the company and based on the amount of percentage we hold,we get voting rights in the company;s decision.
3.Liquidity:
When we buy a land,in case of emergency if we want to liquidate in certain circumstances we will not be able to sell it off immediately for several reasons.
On the other hand, stocks can be bought and sold anytime during market hours.
Flip-side of owning a stock would be discussed in a separate article later.
TEMPERAMENT ONE SHOULD HAVE FOR INVESTING IN STOCKS:
1.Controlling Emotions
One should not loose his/her control if price of a stock goes up or down drastically in a day or week. Some stocks move everyday, some will not move at all for months, some would go down after we bought.
2.Prices variations:
Owning a stock is like owning a land.Do we check the price of the land after we bought?Same applies to Stocks as well.We should not be driven by the prices of the stock rather the business value should determine the price which we should learn to calculate.Because a stock which has no earnings can touch 1000% increase in a year and a stock with good earning would be beaten by 100% in a year. So,the price is not the real reflection of a business.
3.Long-term Investment:
Stocks should be purchased only for long-term with a time horizon of more than 3 years. As Warren Buffet says our holding period for stocks is forever. We should go to stock market only for making huge profits, not just 10% or 20%.Any good stock which is held for more than 3 years would give huge returns.

Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya
Friends,
First of all,am neither a movie reviewer nor an endorser for any movies. If i like a movie, just add it to my favorite list and moves on to the next.Sometimes, only with few friends i discuss good movies and ask them to watch it.After all movies are another part of our entertainment just like cricket.Even last year, same time when "Naan kadavul" got released, i thought of writing a review, unfortunately i couldnt make it because i got drastic opposition from my close friend cricle that movie was below-average and deferred that decision(Anyway bala got a national award and was happy whether movie was hit/flop i dont care as long as the movie is upto my expectation.same is the case with Aiyarathil oruvan).
Now coming to the point, when VTV was announced, expectation meter soared very high only because of the crew (ARR with Gautham menon) not because of the cast.Gautham is well-known for bringing out the best from music director and cameraman apart from giving out his best..Remember nobody talks about the cast(Trisha and simbhu) here when the movie was announced.Such is the power of this crew. When the music was released it created big wave in south india(Especailly in TN and AP).Usually in gautham's movie, songs will be megahits both on-screen and off-screen..I still remember when Minnale got reelased in 2000,for another 2,3 years all youth got addicted this album. Then came "Kaka kaka" another blockbuster from Gautham and that album also runaway success from Goutham-harris combination.Similarly Pachi kili muthucharam..then the duo rocked in Varanam aiyiram. From 2008 to 2009 end,it was the only album that was played most in all over TN.
Finally once VTV album was launched,oh! man people went crazy and the album beat the expectations of the audience.Yes am not exaggerating, song are so pleasing and good to hear.
Good thing about Gautham's movie albums are the more you listen to,more you get addicted to.
Hats off to Thamrai for consecutively penning songs with nice tamil words..
Here,i want to make one point Gautham is the one who has been continuously naming his films in original Tamil words. My special thanks to him.
Anyway i wanted to watch this movie desperately and so were my friends.Movie was supposed to get released on 26th Feb 2010 here in USA.My friend bhuvan said movie is releasing on his state (Delaware) on Thursday(25th Feb 2010).So,my job was half-done yes,am not kidding bcz he ranks the movie very perfectly or atleast to my taste. So i thought i will come to know the results by Thursday night. He called me during interval and said first-half was really good. Then i slept and next day he said movie is simply awesome..I couldnt control myself from watching it.
I went on last sunday with 2 other friends. However i reduced my expectations as low as possible,Because last year many of the expected movies didnt fare well(Kandhasamy,Aadhavan,Asal). So i kept calm and played VTV album in car on our way to theatre.Of 4 guys, one guy is from HYD.He wanted to watch the film in Telegu(Naga chaitanya nagarjuna's son acted in telegu version). He was also as excited like us and we reached the theatre before 30 mins.
Movie started off with a great comedy during title when they showed "Young superstar" Simbu(Almost everybody laughed in theatre).Creativity was started from the title itself...
Hero was not introduced as a saviour who fights against evil forces or someone who dances to some opening song when ladies around him takes aradhana. It was rather a simple and decent way of introducing the hero.Kathik is young aspiring director who has nothing to do in his life except dreaming about his directional venture. His family rented the first floor of Jessi's house (malayali christian) and he lives with his parents and sister.Since he was jobless,he while away his time in house by doing nothing. He got attracted towards the beauty of Jessy who works in Polaris and falls in love. However she said she cant think of loving a hindu and a guy who is one year younger to her.Karthik keeps trying several ways to attract her.
Jessi also started loving him after several hiccups. But she was not sure about her love towards him rather confused to take a decision whether to stay with parents or go away with her lover.Meanwhile, some scuffle with Jessi's brother made karthik to beat him black and blue and they both turned enemies. At the same time Karthik was also trying to become assistant director and finally got a chance to work with K.S.R...Suddenly Jessi's parents found her a match and arranged for her marriage. They all left to Kerala for her marriage and simbhu also trying to follow them..After that what happens forms the story after interval.
Simbhu: After 5 years(previous hit was manmadhan),he has hit on his profile. He has done extremely well.No extra build-ups,no unwanted fight sequences. He is worth for this success. His acting is quite natural,in fact no acting is needed from him for this movie.
Trisha:Am not a big fan of her. After watching this movie,i was quite excited about her performance. Her on-screen chemistry with Simbhu is simply a visual treat. You will feel it on the screen if you watch it on the theatres.
You all would have thought what is their in this simple story. This is theme is no different from earlier love stories. But hang on.It is not about story,it is about the feel you get after watching the movie. In fact while watching also,it would make you feel the true love. There are no words to explain the feeling one gets after watching this..
Movie-making is not an easy task,it is like telling a story to 1000's of people who comes to theatre with variety of mindset. It is the success of the director who makes the crowd to drift their attention towards him...Gautham has got that presentation skill very much. His movies forms the best part of his life.Even death, disappointment can be shown positively only by him.
More over making a mass-movie is rather very simple.Take for example K.S.R's movies or Vijay movies. There will be 5 songs (2 kuthu, one opening song),separate comedy track, last half-an hour to speak non-stop dialogue against villain,5 fights(each 5-10 minutes),then romance, then sentiments. If you mix the commercial elements properly here, your movie is ready.Almost 75% of the directos are using this formula in the so-called Kollywood.Only certain directors like Gautham,Mani,Ameer,Bala are doing movies without this formula.Selva has also joined this league of late.
Here the point is it is not so easy to make a movie for 2 hours 40 minutes projecting 4,5 characters(in fact simbhu, trisha and cameraman(simbu friend in movie)).Very very tough task to play around with these 3 characters alone and still making the audience tied to their seat for 3 hours.
Another important aspect of this movie is picturisation.Even kerala looks more beautiful than New York(yes this movie also has some scenes from NYC,remember gautham;s VV,VA NYC scenes).Hats off to the cameraman Manoj..There are people who speak totally against this movie and its concept.I think they dont like neither Aiyarathil oruvan nor vettaikaran. So VTV is not an exception for them..Again am not exaggerating so much about this movie. It is purely my view, individual's taste's differs.
One good thing about tamil cinema nowadays is technically it is growing miles by miles every year.(Sharukh's fav cameraman Manikandan,Amitabh's fav cameraman Ravi.K.chandran,Ravi varman,RD Rajasekar,Kathir.they all have one thing in common, all belong to Chennai). That way technical aspects are so good in most of the movies.
I will write endlessly about this movie however i want you guys to write more after watching it in theatre.
Happy Watching.
Cheers,
Sambath (Alias) Karthik..oops! stilll i couldnt come out of the character...lol!

My First step into Stock Markets
Well,Stock is a buzz word that raised lot of curiosity in my mind when I was in my college days.I stayed on a rented house in those days and used to go to a mess
nearby my place for food.Owner of the mess was a good friend of mine and we used
to discuss a lot about Politics, Movies and current affairs. One day when I was
having my dinner,he asked me to read the India Today's issue of that week.I was an avid reader those days and used to read whatever attracted my mind.It was about Reliance Industries and its Bifurcation among its brothers after the demise of Dhirubhai Ambani. That was the time he spoke to me about his experience in buying and selling stocks. He informed about the relaince shares he held and sold it off for profits.I asked him silly questions like why you did not hold it for long-run,how can we buy stocks, how much money we need?
He patiently answered all the questions and still I can not understand what is a stock mean?
The above incident happened way back in 2004.Later I graduated out and came to Chennai for taking up a job in Software. One of my close friends was also interested in buying stocks and he shared the same view of mine.He did not know where to begin with.We went to a Broker office in GN Shetty road and had a detailed discussion about the intricacies of investing in stocks.Somehow we didnot push it forward for opening a DEMAT account. Here the buzz word is "DEMAT".
Later he went to Bangalore and opened an account for himself and started buying stocks. In my office, several of my friends started buying shares for themselves and made some money.I got introduced to a guy working in my office and he helped in opening a DEMAT account.
So,this is how I strode into the stock market. This is the place where my exciting journey started and I never expected I would get a free roller-coaster ride every single day.Yes,whatever adventurous game we play in resort,theme-parks are no way closer to the excitement that we enjoy in the stock market. On the flip side,no disappointment is as frustrating as this one.
